3 Jeers for MT : Week 8

A stagnant offense and untimely turnovers doomed the Blue Raiders Friday night as they lost to Marshall 38-10 at home. Preseason expectations and hope have vanished, leaving behind a trail of apathy and frustration among players, coaches, and fans.

It’s time, however, to take one last look at the loss and hand out this week’s three jeers. Here they are :

FIRST UP : HEAD COACH RICK STOCKSTILL

As a man, Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Stockstill is a man of integrity and genuinely cares for his players. If I can be honest, Middle Tennessee is lucky to have a man whose actions will not dishonor the university.

He may preach #EATT, but his decision to stand by struggling quarterback says otherwise. Urzua’s untimely and frequent interceptions have contributed to a disappointing start to the season. Furthermore, if John Urzua is truly the second best quarterback on the roster, then Middle Tennessee is in trouble in the post-Brent Stockstill era.

For the issues at quarterback, here’s a jeer.

NEXT UP : PLAYER DEVELOPMENT :

The struggles on the offensive line and rash of injuries have exposed a weakened within the Middle Tennessee offense - player development. How, or rather, why, are there so many underclassman in the two deep? Second, why has Middle Tennessee been unable to develop a consistent receiving threat beyond Richie James and Ty Lee? Third, why is diminutive running back Brad Anderson the best every-down running back on the roster?

The answer for those three questions, in my opinion, is simple - the Blue Raiders have not down a great job of developing the current upperclassman into contributors.

And for their inability to develop players, here’s a jeer!

LAST ONE : ESPN

I realize high school football may not be a big deal in Bristol, Connecticut, but here in the south, high school football is a way of life. The Friday night lights are reserved to the unsung heroes, our neighbors, and friends who are playing for the love of the game and school pride. So, I ask, why in the world do you insist on scheduling college football on this most sacred night?

For taking away from the Friday night lights, here’s a jeer.
