Local DE Myers commits to MT

The month of July has been very fruitful for the Blue Raider coaching staff in terms of recruiting, and MT picked up another peach of a prospect Wednesday when local DE Chris Myers out of LaVergne High made his commitment official.
In Myers, the Blue Raiders secure another versatile player who they can plug in at a handful of different positions. Although he projects out as a DE at the collegiate level, Myers has also played OLB during his high school career as well as TE.
The younger brother of former Tennessee State standout Robert Myers - now of the Baltimore Ravens - Myers will look to make a name of his own at a program looking to take the next step forward on the road to a conference championship.
In February, Myers competed at the "Tennessee Grind Time: Defense" showcase in Franklin. Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst Woody Wommack was on hand and tabbed Myers as the second most impressionable athlete at the showcase - a nice compliment considering some of Tennessee's best athletes were on display.
Wommack had this to say about MT's newest addition to the 2016 recruiting class:
"Myers is another freakishly long prospect, standing a legit 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 215 pounds," Wommack said. "He also took reps as a tight end but it's hard not to project him to the defensive side of the ball in a full-contact scenario. Myers' older brother is expected to get drafted in the early rounds of this year's NFL Draft and if the younger Myers continues to progress he will likely be on the radar of Power Five schools soon."
To this point, Myers held offers from MT and Samford, but was also being actively recruited by Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Kentucky, the latter of which he recently took an unofficial visit to.
