Thoughts on MTSU's win over Marshall

As you likely know by now, after each MTSU football game GoMiddle revs up a piece with thoughts on the contest.

Rickey Fuquay Jr. is up to bat this week.

Below are his thoughts.

Defense Shines

Heading into this game, I made a point that the key for MT was going to be to slow down the Thundering Herd on the ground. The Blue Raiders held Redshirt Sophomore Quarterback Isaiah Green and Redshirt Freshman Running Back Brenden Knox to a combined 194 yards on 35 carries. They also forced four turnovers including three interceptions (two of them by Redshirt Senior Safety Jovante Moffatt) and sacked Green two times.

Time to Feel Confident

For the second year in a row, the Blue Raiders made a statement to open up Conference USA play by knocking off the preseason favorite to win the C-USA East Division. I keep saying that the play of the defense will be the key to getting back to the Conference USA Championship. Do I think this defense has all what it takes to avenge last year's C-USA Championship loss? Yes I do as long as they stay healthy.

Clean and Efficient

For the third game in a row, the Blue Raiders had a turnover-free game. Redshirt Sophomore Quarterback Asher O'Hara was on his A-game all afternoon long as he hit the 200-yard mark for the fourth time this season. The offensive line was lights out as well despite allowing two sacks. The offense will have to continue performing at that pace as we continue through the C-USA stretch of the season.
