The Picks Are In: ODU Edition

Matt Dossett and Rickey Fuquay trudge ahead with the picks for each MTSU football game. Both have hit on most of the Blue Raiders games. Matt is 8-2, while Rickey is 9-1 for the season.

Now it is time for the MT/ODU picks.

Matt Dossett (8-2 on the season)

As it stands currently, WKU is the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to the CUSA East Division. The Hilltoppers are currently 5-1. while Marshall is 4-2. After that, there is a cluster to teams at 3-3. That includes MT, Old Dominion, Charlotte and FAU.

This week MT welcomes fellow 3-3 club, Old Dominion. At the time of this publication, MT is a 3.5 point favorite.

It seems as if Nick Vattiato, the freshman will get the green light at the quarterback spot after throwing for 147 yards and two touchdowns on 20 for 24 passes. Look for the Blue Raiders to ask Vattiato to be. game manager and hand the rock to his friends in the backfield. MT ran for 261 against the Golden Panthers last week.

The Blue Raiders are eyeballing bowl eligibility with the Monarchs and the FAU Owls remaining.

ODU brings a balanced offensive attack to the table. The Monarchs have run for 1,803 yards and they have thrown for 2,047 yards.

I expect this game to be a tightly contested ballgame. I expect MT to rely heavily on the rushing game.

Again, MT is a 3.5 point favorite, and I expect them to cover, barely.

MT 28

ODU: 24

Rickey Fuquay Jr. (9-1 on the season)

Middle Tennessee used a 43-0 run to roll past Florida International 50 to 10.Nine seniors will be honored before kickoff against Old Dominion. The Blue Raiders come into this matchup with a 4-0 record against the Monarchs.

Meanwhile, Old Dominion come in "The Boro" on a three-game winning streak overall after losing five of their first six games. The line is MTSU by 3.5. I expect this game to be close with both teams being close to bowl eligibility.Freshman Quarterback Nicholas Vattiato and Redshirt Freshman Hayden Wolff will outduel each other; however Vattiato will come up clutch in the final two minutes and send the seniors out on a high note. Most importantly, they'll clinch bowl eligibility for the first time since 2018.

MTSU: 28

ODU: 21
