Blue Raiders complete FB staff in the process
The Middle Tennessee football staff is officially complete.
Within weeks of losing multiple staff positions on his offense, Rick Stockstill hit a series of home runs to get the house back in order - and the addition of Jeff Beckles continues the trend.
In addition to this hire, Stockstill officially announced that current staff members Rick Mallory and Mike Polly have transitioned to the roles of offensive line coach and offensive tackles/tight ends coach, respectively.
In Beckles, Stockstill gets another experienced coach with a proven track record of success, and his two most recent stops (Samford and Troy) were well known for their utilization of the Air Raid offense, something that MT will be kicking in to high gear with the re-emergence of OC Tony Franklin.
"I have known Jeff a long time and have great respect for him as a coach and recruiter," Stockstill said in a university press release. "He is a high character guy who will fit in perfectly with our staff and University. He brings a lot of experience in recruiting Alabama and Florida which will be a big boost to our program."
The addition of Beckles also continues the trend of Stockstill keeping his staff within the Florida State family. Beckles played WR for FSU in the 90's (along with new hire Kez McCorvey) and was apart of Bobby Bowden's 1993 national championship team.
Beckles got into coaching following his playing days, beginning his career with four high school coaching gigs in Florida and Georgia. He broke into the college ranks in 1999, and has not looked back since.
Perhaps the most successful stint Beckles had was during his time at Troy, where he served as the RB's coach for five seasons (2010-2014). In that time frame, Beckles took ownership of a rushing attack that produced multiple 1,000-yard seasons, including a 2,000-yard campaign in his first season.
In addition to the productive yardage, Troy's RB's routinely found the endzone. In 2013, under the tutelage of Beckles, true freshman Jordan Chunn scored 14 touchdowns, the highest among freshmen in the country that season.
But, for as important as position coaches are on the field and in practice, their importance doubles when it comes to the world of recruiting, and the addition of Beckles serves as the latest heads up to the southeast region - The Blue Raiders are going to be in your back yard.
With deep ties to the states of Florida, Alabama and Georgia, Beckles seems like the absolute perfect fit for Stockstill when it comes to recruitment. His connections in these areas will pay dividends for the Blue Raiders, who routinely hunt in these grounds.
Stockstill also might have found his good luck charm when it comes to Bowl games here. During his career, Beckles went undefeated in bowl games as a player, and has amassed a respectable record in Bowl games in which he has coached.
Like I said, another home run hire here for Middle Tennessee.
