Rickey's thoughts on MTSU's loss to Rice

Middle Tennessee State suffered a home defeat to Rice Saturday.

Rickey Fuquay Jr. has his thoughts coming off a loss to a Rice team that was winless.

Better Luck Next Year

The Blue Raiders came into this game needing to win three games to clinch bowl eligibility. I mentioned last week that the Blue Raiders can still make a bowl game with a 5-7 record due to MT's APR score which stood at 982. Even if they were to win the last two games, I don't think they deserve a bowl bid after this stunning loss to Rice. It is a good thing for the program to boast a solid APR, but it just wouldn't feel right for this team to have the privilege of competing in a bowl game.

Fans have reason to want change

After a loss to one of three winless teams left in the FBS, you have to be wondering is it time for a change since MT's hopes of a fifth straight bowl bid have been ruined. Without a doubt, there is a large contingency of disgruntled fans that are chomping at the bit for a change in leadership when it comes to the football program. To be quite frank, despite the outcry of frustration, I do not think any bold changes will be made to the football program. Yes, I think that major disappointment and frustration is warranted, but I doubt any wholesale changes will be made.

The defense was tough in the second half

Despite the fact that Rice knocked all of their offensive YPG stats as well as their PPG average out of the park, the Blue Raiders came out with fire in the second half and held the Owls to zero points. I know this statement probably doesn't diminish the outrage and frustration from Blue Raider faithful, but to be honest, it is the only positive thing I could think of to put in this article.
