Middle Tennessee softened the blow of their heartbreaking double overtime loss to Western Kentucky on Monday by beating the Hilltoppers on the recruiting trail.

The Blue Raiders bested the Hilltoppers, and others, for the services of Dalton High (GA) WR Zeke Cobb.

After traveling to Murfreesboro for a unofficial visit over the weekend, Cobb decided he had seen enough. He took the rest of the weekend to get his affairs in order, but by Monday, the decision was made.

Cobb took to Twitter Monday night to make things official.

The journey to this point has been anything but easy for the 6-foot-3 Cobb.

After a standout sophomore campaign for Dalton, expectations for Cobb were going through the roof. He picked up his first collegiate scholarship offer and was receiving interest from SEC schools.

All was well.

And then everything came crashing to a halt.

In the first series of the very first game of his junior season, Cobb suffered a complete tear of his ACL. The injury was devastating on many fronts, but in the world of recruiting - a world in which schools do most of their evaluating and offering in a prospect's junior campaign - an injury like that is very hard to overcome.

Whereas a lot of kids would fold in a situation like this, Cobb put his nose to the grind, rehabbed tirelessly, and put himself in a position to come back for his senior season.

And what a comeback it's been so far.

In his first game back, Cobb hauled in two touchdown passes. Now, through seven games this year, Cobb has amassed 26 receptions for 507 yards and seven TD's - showing the same level of quickness and physicality that got him noticed in the first place.

One of the teams that stuck with Cobb through the journey was Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders extended an offer to Cobb back in May - just two weeks after he was cleared for drills again - showing they had the confidence in him before he ever stepped back on the field.

MT wasn't alone though. Western Kentucky, Mississippi State and Georgia Southern all extended offers Cobb's way, in addition to several FCS programs.

"The recruiting process was fun and I had fun time at the school every time I visited," Cobb told GoMiddle.com. "I just felt like it was the right place for me and my family loved it also."

Cobb's commitment gives the 2-star prospect a chance to focus on the remainder of his senior season. The Catamounts are undefeated through their first seven games, and after back-to-back heartbreaking seasons, are looking to capture a state title.
