New Raider happy with visit

This was supposed to have been the day Jamal Ramsey would commit to Middle Tennessee.

The quarterback prospect from Franklin (Tenn.) Battle Ground Academy had planned on doing that following his official visit, but he ended up pulling the trigger on Wednesday, making his visit over the weekend a little less dramatic.

He still enjoyed his time on campus though and made a lot of headway toward making himself comfortable with the players he will team up with for the next four or five years.

He also joined other Blue Raider commitments in trying to recruit uncommitted visitors that were on campus.

"The first day we went out to eat and everybody had their host with them," Ramsey said. "The parents went back to the hotel and all the players went out with the hosts but basically everybody was together. Everybody was really cool and it seemed like everybody jelled really quick. I think a lot of commitments are going to start happening ... We are trying to recruit and get a team together."

Ramsey, who was hosted on his visit by freshman receiver Malcolm Beyah, said the Blue Raiders rolled out the red carpet for him and the other recruits on campus.

"We went to the school and did a bunch of academic stuff, toured the campus, and then we ate lunch in the press box and toured the football facilities. Then we went back to the hotel and got dressed for the academic banquet. It was real nice. It kind of made everybody even more excited to come there and do good. We went out with our player hosts afterwards."

Ramsey figures prominently into the future of MT's quarterback situation and he is hoping to fit into the picture sooner rather than later.

Based on his conversations with the Blue Raider coaching staff, he feels confident he'll have a chance to do that.

"They are just saying that the best players are going to play, no matter if they are freshmen or what. So I feel like if I come in and perform then I'll have a shot to play," Ramsey said.
