The summer is off to quite a sizzle for Middle Tennessee football coach Rick Stockstill and his staff.

Their latest splash comes by way of local QB product John Turner, who verbally committed to the Blue Raider staff Monday afternoon before taking to Twitter to announce his decision.

Turner's commitment to MT comes just days after getting an offer. He cited the coaching staff and location as his deciding factors.

"I just think it's the best opportunity for me regardless of any other offers," Turner told GoMiddle.com. "I really like the coaching staff and I want to stay close to my family."

The Blue Raiders were the first to offer Turner, but were quickly followed up by Eastern Kentucky. The consensus among most recruiting analysts is that Turner is poised to start stacking up more offers as he heads into his senior year, though. To this point, Turner was also receiving interest from programs such as WKU, Toledo, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Kentucky, Purdue, Wake Forest and a slew of others.

GoMiddle.com actually caught up with Turner last week following his offer pickup, and he was quick to praise for the Blue Raider coaching staff for the way they were recruiting him, especially Steve Ellis, whom Turner said he had developed a strong relationship with during the process.

Turner is an MT legacy as well. Both of his parents are graduates of Middle Tennessee, and the dual-threat QB had developed a very strong relationship with current MT QB Brent Stockstill over the past few years as well.
