While Kermit Davis and his basketball team were getting honored at the Tennessee Titans game Sunday afternoon, the Blue Raider program was getting a new addition.

Tallahassee C.C guard David Simmons, who was in Murfreesboro for the weekend on a official visit, decided to pull the trigger and commit to the Blue Raiders.

A rising sophomore, Simmons averaged 14 points, 7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game last year at Tallahassee as a freshman while shooting 51.4 percent from the floor and 35.4 percent from beyond the arc.

For his efforts, Simmons was named the Panhandle Conference Freshman of the Year in addition to receiving First-team FCSAA All-State and First-team All-Panhandle Conference accolades.

Prior to his time at Tallahassee, Simmons played his high school ball at Henderson County High (KY) where, as a senior, he averaged 18.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and shot 74.0 percent from the free throw line and 29.6 percent from deep.

Simmons ended his high school career fourth on Henderson County’s all-time scoring list with 1,617 points, and was also a Mr. Kentucky candidate.

Considered a bulldog on the defensive side of the ball, Simmons went the JUCO route to tighten up his ball handling skills and work on his jump shot. Considering his shooting percentages and turnover margin looked solid, consider that mission accomplished.
