Local 2017 prospect Donovan Sims has decided to stay home.

The Blackman High (TN) product committed to Middle Tennessee Monday night, officially ending his recruitment before it could ever really get going.

Heralded for his defensive prowess and fluid play at the point guard position, Sims will give head coach Kermit Davis a true point guard to plug into his lineup when he arrives on campus.

In just his first season as the Blaze's starting point guard, Sims has led his team to an unblemished 20-0 start, averaging 4.1 points and 23.9 minutes per game. Though his shot is still developing, Sims is converting at a respectable 35 percent (11-for-31) from beyond the arc this year.

Where Sims has excelled is in dishing out the rock. To date, Sims leads the area with an impressive 4.9 assists per game, and is chipping in on the block as well, hauling in 3.7 rebounds per game.

Though slim, the 6-foot, 145-pound guard uses his lateral quickness and shifty footwork very well for a player his age, and figures to grow into his body a bit more between now and when he reports to the team.

In reviewing his film, it does not take long to see that Sims is a great general who runs the floor extremely well. His court vision is stellar and he is capable of making the more intricate passes to find his open shooters.

Sims will need time to develop his shot, improve his rebounding and get his strength up, but in terms of a true point guard, Kermit Davis seems to have found his next Bruce Massey here.

Commitments are of course non-binding for the player and the school. Sims will have an opportunity to sign with the Blue Raiders this November.
