Hoops Commit Conversation: Tre Green

Middle Tennessee State has made an offseason addition, adding to the class of 2022.

On May 21, the Blue Raiders added Tre Green, a combo guard from Baltimore, Maryland.

Green said he is 6'3 and 191 pounds.

Playing against Maryland competition, Green said he averaged 23 points a game, seven rebounds per game and two assists per game. He shot 75.3 percent from the free throw line, 60 percent from two, and 49 percent from three. Green mentioned he was all-conference and on the all Maryland team.

Green spoke to GoMiddle, and made a point to mention that MT head man Nick McDevitt played an instrumental role in getting him to the Boro.

"Coach McDevitt was the key," Green said.

"I had also been weighing the pros and cons to finishing out the EYBL season as a '23 versus committing to college now. Coach McDevitt and my ultimate next goal won out."

Green added that he developed a true bond with McDevitt and the entire program itself.

"After talking to many different coaches, I liked how honest and how straight forward this staff was," Green said.

"Attention to detail and the precision they used to find out who I was outside of basketball through the eyes of the people I know who coached and taught me. And Coach McDevitt's relationship with his current players plus no one transfered out that says something."

Green said that he brings versatility and skill to the Blue Raider program.

"I'm a basketball player," he said. "I don't have a designated position because I am very versatile. The simplest way to describe my game is a 3-level scorer who dares to guard anyone. I would just consider myself an overall multi-dimensional player that just happens to play the role of combo-guard."

Green said that he honed his game while facing stiff competition.

"The MIAA is strong and I played everything from the one to four in high school, just whatever Coach Garrett needed that night or that moment, but spent most of my time at the shooting guard position and defending the opposing team's best player regardless of position...from Cam Whitmore (Villanova) to Christian Winborne (Saint Joseph's) to Deon Perry (Loyola)."

One contributing factor leading Green to Middle was the opportunity to be a player in 2022.

"I don't feel I chose MT over any particular other school. More so I chose MT over the prospect of remaining a '23 and attending a top Prep School to possibly obtain more offers in numbers. I just felt MT. I felt some schools wanted me to wait almost hide out as a '23 because the portal used up so many '22 spots. But in this current climate I feel you go with your gut and commit on your own timeline."

Green has a date for when he will arrive in Murfreesboro and officially join the rest of the team and the program.

"I will return to campus for good the weekend after my graduation ceremony. So June 13th."
