As the saying goes - the early bird gets the worm.

That's not something you can necessarily claim too often on the recruiting trail, but for Middle Tennessee head coach Kermit Davis and his basketball staff - that's exactly what they're saying tonight.

The Blue Raiders received the earliest commitment that they've ever gotten when Tipton Rosemark Academy (TN) class of 2021 forward Alex Anderson made things official.

Anderson's commitment was first reported by MemphisHoopers.com, and quickly confirmed by GoMiddle.com by sources close to the situation.

According to those sources, Anderson appeared at an Elite Camp that MT put together over the summer. At that camp, Anderson established himself against a group of older, stronger and more developed players - enough so that the Blue Raider coaching staff put a full court press on the blossoming freshman from that moment on.

Those same sources told GoMiddle.com that the belief around Middle Tennessee is that Anderson "has a chance" to be great - high praises indeed for a player so young.

With it being so early in the process, both in terms of recruiting and Anderson's player development, it's hard to say what the future really holds here. Commitments are, of course, non-binding, and as history has shown, early commitments like these fall through more often than not.

With all that said, social media certainly took notice of the news Tuesday evening, and if nothing else, both Middle Tennessee and Anderson will have few more eyeballs on them as this process unwinds.

Stay locked in to GoMiddle.com as we'll have more on the commitment of Alex Anderson, and much more, coming soon!
