2014 JUCO PF Davis commits

Recruiting just never seems to stop for Middle Tennessee basketball coach Kermit Davis and his coaching staff.

Even though the ink on his 2013 recruiting class is barely dry, Davis and his staff have already received their first commitment of the 2014 class from JUCO standout Shaheed Davis.

The 6-foot-9 Davis, who initially committed to Duquesne out of high school before being deemed academically ineligible, will play the 2013-14 season at Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Fla., and is expected to sign with MT during the early period in November.

As a high school recruit, Davis caught the attention of numerous programs due to a combination of his size and athleticism. Though he stood around 6'8" at the time, Davis had a 7'1" wingspan and could play any position from small forward to center.

Davis possesses huge upside in just about every facet of his game, and was labeled a mid-major steal by Rivals.com analysts that covered his recruiting. On offense, Davis can run the floor and plays with a high motor. He has the ability to step outside and knock down shots or create his own shot off of the dribble. Defensively, Davis plays bigger than he is, and is credited with being able to alter shots easily.

A native of Ohio, Davis pledged to Duquesne over offers from Akron, Kent State, Southern Illinois, Cleveland State, Toledo and UT-Chattanooga while also receiving interest from Florida, Cincinnati, Xavier, Penn State, DePaul, Eastern Michigan and a host of other MAC schools.

After failing to qualify at Duquesne, Davis signed with Polk State junior college, where he was averaging 16 points and seven rebounds a game before transferring mid-season to Brevard where he sat out the remainder of the year to satisfy transfer guidelines.

Davis' recruitment continues the trend of Middle Tennessee looking for versatile big men who can run the floor and extend their game outside of the paint on offense. Davis will have three years to play two once he gets to Murfreesboro.
